Animals in Zoos 11/23/2008

Animals in their natural environment are amazing, no matter what species we are talking about. There they have enough space to act natural, they can jump, run, hunt, play, be what they are every minute of their life.

Many years zoos were private places where animals were kept in cruel conditions to minimize costs. That way, zoos meant only business. Zoos and animals kept in those zoos were only a way known by rich people to make more money. But how about zoos nowadays? Nowadays, apparently the conditions are different, they seem to be better, but I don't know if this changes anything.

In zoos animals' behavior is not natural. They don't hunt and they are feed with pieces of meat or other food. People give them drugs in their water and food so the animals will never be aggressive or nervous. For example, in a zoo a lion is always calm, rarely walks in his cage and does not react when visitors come close to his cage, while in his natural environment he runs  and hunt.

In a cage it's not enough space for any animals. They should be free and not kept in small cages. They should be in the wild, hunting or trying to find food by their own.

A natural reservation is a better option for animals. There they can be studied, but they are free, they have a bigger space to live in and they cn interact with other animals.

All in all, animals in zoos can be useful for humans' knowledge, as they can be seen closely by kids and adults, but it's not healthy or good for any animals, unless they really can't survive in nature by their own. I'd rather see an animal in a reservation than see it in a zoo.

A trip means a number of steps. Our destination is a new world. Not outside, not searching for life on a new planet, but our world, made healthier and more friendly for all the creatures who belong to it. That means plants, animals and humans.

We, as humans, are capable to unite big masses of people to start a new war. We are capable to destroy what Mother Nature created. But why don't we get together to protect her? We, as children, as Mother Nature's children, should respect her for all the life she carries and treat her as our mother.

Along the years many things were invented to make our life easier or simply to survive. So there were created fire to fight against cold, medicines to fight against death, even weapons to fight against each other... But not all the problems were resolved. That's why in the 21st century many people still die starving, others are still killed with no mercy in wars, being just puppets on the leaders of the world's scene. These are what it's called "sad, but true".

Another sad thing is the fact that we still hunt animals, even if we can raise some of them for meat. We hunt for pleasure... Isn't that a crime? A murderer who kills people for his own pleasure is not worse than a hunter who does the same, killing animals instead. Hunting was invented because all the beings need food, but we are 21st century humans, so why do we still do that?

It comes a moment when we have to start fighting against our nowadays problems. Humans created rights, to make people equal. Officially, we all agree that all humans are equal, but are we? We discriminate and hate people for being black, homosexual, women, men, children, rockers, rappers, small, tall, blond, sick, rich or poor or who knows why... That's wrong and we know that.

To sum up, we do not respect all the human rights, we do not respect ourselves. And we do not respect animal rights either. We do not respect our Mother Nature... what kind of children are we?

A trip means a number of steps... we can all make this trip, if we stick together...
